The last of the eight prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from Akwa Ibom State, Solomon Bassey Daniel, who was abducted in Zamfara State, has finally been released from captivity.
Mr. Umoh, a family member, confirmed the news to Saturday Vanguard on Friday morning while in Eket Local Government Area. Overjoyed, Mr. Umoh shared that Daniel, who had been held captive since August 17, was freed on Thursday, August 22. Daniel, an indigene of Afahaube Itam in Itu Local Government Area, was kidnapped along with seven other corps members while en route to the Sokoto Orientation Camp.
The abduction of these young Nigerians sparked widespread concern and prayers across the nation, as they were taken just days before they were set to begin their national service. Mr. Umoh expressed profound gratitude for his son’s safe return, saying, “We were hopeful, and today our prayers have been answered. I give God all the glory.”
The NYSC has been working closely with security agencies to secure the safe release of all abducted corps members, and Daniel’s release marks the end of this harrowing experience.
