PDP Group Warns Wike: “Don’t Blackmail Wabara with Media Campaign”

In the latest political skirmish within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a pro-PDP group, PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress, has issued a stern warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike. The group has accused Wike of orchestrating a media campaign against Senator Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT).

Allegations and Accusations: Wike in the Crosshairs

Addressing journalists in Umuahia, Abia State, the group didn’t hold back in its critique of Wike, alleging that the FCT Minister is also behind the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State. The National Coordinator of the group, Emeka “Yellow” Ikpegbu, expressed strong disapproval of Wike’s actions, particularly in response to the recent visit by PDP BoT members to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Ikpegbu emphasized that no amount of media manipulation or campaigns targeted against Senator Wabara and other PDP BoT members will succeed. He described the visit as a crucial step in the party’s efforts to rebuild and strengthen its presence not only in Rivers State but across the nation.

Support for Wabara and Rebuilding the PDP

The group threw its full support behind the solidarity visit by the BoT members, which it believes is essential for the revitalization of the PDP in Rivers State. According to Ikpegbu, the visit was welcomed by PDP progressives across various geopolitical zones, signaling a unified effort to restore the party’s influence and prepare for a “landslide victory in 2027.”

Ikpegbu went on to claim that Wike was taken aback by the BoT members’ visit and their show of support for Governor Fubara. The group further alleged that Wike’s disappointment stems from his failed attempts to control the new governor and maintain his influence in Rivers State politics even after his tenure as governor.

Call to Action: Uniting Against Godfatherism

In a bold statement, the group supported the recent call by Niger Delta leader and elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, for Wike’s expulsion from the PDP. They argued that Wike’s behavior is detrimental to the party’s unity and progress, and that his continued presence poses a threat to the PDP’s internal democracy.

Ikpegbu urged other PDP stakeholders, especially the party’s governors, to rally behind the BoT members and resist any form of godfatherism. He emphasized that the practice of godfatherism has long been a destructive force within the party, and that it’s time for the PDP to embrace internal democracy and allow for true leadership to emerge.

The Way Forward: Rebuilding Trust and Unity

As the PDP navigates through these internal challenges, the PDP Frontiers for Change and Progress is calling for a renewed focus on unity and collaboration within the party. They believe that by supporting the efforts of the BoT members and rejecting any attempts at manipulation, the PDP can rebuild its foundation and secure a strong victory in the upcoming elections.

The group’s message to Wike is clear: the era of media blackmail and political control is over. It’s time for the party to move forward with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to genuine democratic principles.
