President Bola Tinubu has urged participants of the National Defence College (NDC) Course 32 to remain vigilant and proactive in tackling the wide array of regional and global threats facing the nation.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the graduation ceremony held in Abuja on Friday, Tinubu emphasized that the college has provided the necessary knowledge and strategies to confront current national security challenges.
“We must be vigilant and proactive in addressing the regional and global threats that lie ahead,” Tinubu said. He also highlighted the importance of promoting and upholding democratic values across Nigeria and the continent, reaffirming his commitment to strengthening ties within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as the current chair.
The president commended the National Defence College for its commitment to excellence, courage, patriotism, and integrity, and pledged to support the institution’s move to its permanent site.
Tinubu also acknowledged the dedication and exceptional service of the Nigerian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity and the lives of its citizens. He assured that his administration is committed to addressing the security, social, and economic challenges confronting the country.
“I will continue to ensure that the Nigerian military is well-resourced and capable,” Tinubu stated. He added that the government remains responsive to the challenges faced by its people and will continue to intervene in matters affecting citizens.
He noted the government’s recent strides, including the implementation of a new national minimum wage benefiting both civilian workers and members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies. Tinubu also addressed efforts to combat crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta, aiming to boost oil production and achieve desired economic standards.
“We are committed to creating a business environment that fosters value addition in the mining sector and are collaborating with international partners to develop strategies that harness the sector’s potential for national security,” he added.
